Why Bangladeshi patients are choosing China

Since 2024 many Bangladeshi patients have found it harder to obtain medical visas for India, and Chinese hospitals, Kunming's in particular, have opened their doors to them. Reports in 2025 described the first groups of Bangladeshi patients travelling to Kunming for treatment from March of that year.

China's large public hospitals treat very high numbers of patients, so their specialist teams see each condition often, and their imaging and surgical equipment is modern. Most of the hospitals in our guide hold Grade III, Class A, the highest rating in China's hospital system.

The medical visa green channel

• Same-day visas for urgent cases: the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka issues medical visas on the same day for urgent cases through its green channel.
• Simpler documents: licensed travel agencies can provide guarantee letters for bank deposit certificates and proof of family relationship, so these no longer need authentication by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Remote interviews: patients who cannot attend in person can be interviewed remotely, with an agency guarantee.
• Invitation letter: the hospital, or your coordinator on its behalf, provides an invitation letter for the visa application.

Flights from Dhaka to Kunming

The flight from Dhaka to Kunming takes about two and a half hours. China Eastern Airlines has also announced flights between Chittagong and Kunming to serve patients from eastern Bangladesh. Schedules change; we check current flights for your dates. Your coordinator meets you at Kunming Changshui International Airport.

Kunming hospitals for Bangladeshi patients

In early 2025 Chinese authorities designated four Kunming hospitals to receive Bangladeshi patients, with interpreters, halal food and help with accommodation: Yunnan Provincial First People's Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Fuwai Yunnan Cardiovascular Hospital and a traditional Chinese medicine hospital. Costs

According to Bangladesh's ambassador to China, Bangladeshi patients pay the same hospital fees as local Chinese patients. You receive a written, itemised quote before you travel, with hospital fees and our coordination fee listed separately.

Language, food and prayer

• Your coordinator interprets at every appointment and handles registration, payment and pharmacy queues.
• Kunming has halal restaurants, and Yunnan has a long-established Hui Muslim community; we arrange halal meals and can point you to mosques.
• A chef, a housekeeper and a driver can be arranged for the whole stay, in a hotel or a standard private residence.

What to prepare

1. Your passport, valid for at least six months.
2. Recent medical reports, scans and a list of your medicines; we arrange translation for the hospital.
3. A short description of what you want treated or checked, so we can match the right hospital and department.
4. Your preferred dates and whether a family member will travel with you.
